We've had a great series of opportunities to meet some stars of screen, stage, and even those that have boldly gone across the universe!
Actor Eric Roberts stopped by at the Cinema Arts Centre for a commentary on a viewing of the film Runaway Train, followed by a discussion on his new book. He was animated, generous, and genuinely fun to work with, even if briefly. He even pulled everyone in the room onto the set for selfies! The first time I saw him onscreen was The Pope of Greenwich Village; I was delighted to see him more recently as a villain in The Dark Knight, opposite Bale as Batman, and will be diving into his book ASAP. Anyway, fun portrait session - always great to get our cameras into Editorial Mode!
Next up: Moon Unit Zappa! She was absolutely lovely, generous, and fun - which I hope came through in her portraits. We had a gorgeous autumn day for it, so I thought it might be nice to put the photo set outside this time and modify the ambient light - for a change of pace.
It was an honor to meet and photograph acting great F. Murray Abraham. Admittedly I've seen Scarface more times that Amadeus, and I loved his part in White Lotus, but through the years no matter the role he's always been absolutely perfect in it. Abraham was in town to support his good friend, producer Julian Schlossberg, in a presentation in Huntington.
And lastly, what a blast photographing George Takei! And yes, he's as charming, engaging, clever, and fun as you'd imagine. He spent an evening with the great gang at the Cinema Arts Centre, Brad near his side, signing copies of his book about his Japanese internment camp experience. The book is written for a children's audience, an educational tool as well as a beautifully-illustrated read. I mentioned to him that this is the first time I've photographed someone whom I had an action figure of as a kid, which is true! They're using one of our portraits to promote his upcoming graphic novel that depicts his time in the Japanese internment camps.
